Nozomi Takemoto, a reclusive first-year high school student, resides in Omuta with her father, a town that once thrived as a coal mining hub. As her summer break nears its end, Nozomi embarks on a bicycle ride to the town's outskirts and stumbles upon a captivating relic: the remnants of a coal mine turret that once symbolized prosperity. Intrigued by this discovery, she delves into the town's history, scouring the library for old records and materials. Along her journey, she crosses paths with a newspaper reporter assigned to cover the town's post-mining era. Through this summer adventure in an unfamiliar town, Nozomi gradually uncovers the hidden chapters of her family's past, connecting her with the experiences of her father and grandparents.

Michael Sheen returns to the town he was brought up in to see for himself the impact hundreds of job losses at the steelworks is having on families. Port Talbot's iconic steelworks is under threat, and Michael follows the ups and downs as the local community finds itself at the centre of a fight for the very future of British steel.

Steve Bell (Tommy Kelly), Tommy Billy Halop), Pig Huntz Hall), Ape (Bernard Punsly) and String (Gabriel Dell are run out of town. Steve, while hopping a freight card and trying to avoid the brakeman, is killed. The boys meet Steve's mother, Alice Bell (Virginia Brissac) and Tommy is given a job in the storage garage which she owns jointly with Mack Steward (Jed Prouty). Steve's brother Don Bell ('Dick Hogan')is working with some gangsters by tipping them off on valuable merchandise that can be hijacked. Pig, Ape and String overhear Don's plans to use Tommy as the fall-guy in the next hijacking.

Hats off to Mr. Gilly, the always smiling, ever energetic trash man who dumps it in, smashes it down and drives around the Trashy Town until his truck is full of glorious garbage.
